Net Metering
Some of our best clients have asked the following questions:
- What if it is cloudy, where do I get my power from?
- What if my solar system isn't in the direct sunlight?
- How can I benefit if it rains for weeks on end?
These questions, although basic, are all good questions. Conveniently, they all have the same answer... and that is Net Metering. At any time of day your solar energy system will produce more or less electricity than it needs.
Example: A typical 3 Kilowatt system can produce 17 kilowatt hours per day. If you go on vacation for a week and you use zero energy when you are gone, your solar energy system would have produced 120 kilowatt hours. This energy will be supplied to the grid and credited to your account. Upon returning from vacation, your monthly energy bill will deduct the amount of energy supplied to the grid from your overall consumption, possibly resulting in a scenario where the electric company owes you money!
